Dr Yumi Oh

Dr Yumi Oh is a Consultant Rheumatologist and an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland.

Yumi completed a dual degree in Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland in 2014. After completing her Basic Physician Training at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, she was accepted to the Queensland Rheumatology Training Program in 2020. Despite the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19, Yumi enjoyed her training in various locations including Metropolitan Brisbane and Far North Queensland – Cairns.

Yumi was born in Japan to her parents with Hong Kong-nese and Taiwanese backgrounds. She spent the majority of her childhood into her adolescent years in Japan, then accompanied her parents for their business trip to Shanghai, China where she completed her secondary education. She then moved to Australia in order to pursue her medical degree at the University of Queensland and now finds herself at home in Brisbane. As a result of her unique upbringing, she is multilingual in English, Japanese and Mandarin. She has high cultural awareness and is passionate about listening to her patient’s values and beliefs to create flexible and tailored, yet effective patient care.

Yumi also consults at the Redcliffe Hospital and is excited to engage in teaching medical students, junior doctors and physician trainees. In addition to her enthusiasm in educating juniors, she is proactive in her own professional development.  She is enrolled in Master of Sports Medicine at the University of Queensland and is excited to gain further knowledge to support her patients in a more holistic manner.
